The Game

Fluid is an unusual game project commissioned from gameLab by the RĂĽschlikon Center for Global Dialogue, a media center in Zurich, Switzerland. Designed for a museum space, Fluid is a touchscreen kiosk housed in an industrial waste container. Players prod, poke, and stroke a tactile ecosystem whose elements slip and slide past their fingers. Equal parts toy and game, playing Fluid is an investigation into the relationships of its miniature creatures. If you can undo the disturbance your initial interaction caused, you win. Fluid is a playful experiment in interactivity that brings digital gaming to new terrain.

The Design

Fluid is Gamelab’s most toy-like project, a game in which you learn the rules as you play, and you never have to complete any goals in order to have fun. A kind of digital moral fable, the player’s aim in Fluid is to remove the gunk from the environment, but it is the player’s curiosity to interact with the system that creates the gunk in the first place.
